On the stairs I would use a hair/ fiber pad. And also make sure the installer goes over the nose of the step. You could use a good 8 lb.rebond type pad for the rest depending if you want comfort and softer feel. Daris

That is better than 8lb pad and is ok. Look for a fiber pad that is 1/2 thick, some have like a 10lb rating.
